Over an hour of my personal selection taken from BAT's first three albums. Set your spirit and imagination free.

From the early days of 21st Century BAT has solely been writing and producing his own brand of Cool Instrumental Rock music. A Free Spirit is a compilation of his favourite tracks from the first three albums [also available on his website]. In conjunction with Cameron Herbert on Drums he had recorded these albums over 6 years and as his music developed and more releases came through it was decided to summarise each stage of BAT's development. A Free Spirit is the first of a series of compilations to ease the listening experience with over 67 minutes of haunting grooves and songs without words where BAT's guitar does the talking.

From a small farming community in the NE. England to London and then on to Japan/Borneo and finally Australia, Malcolm BAT Battersby continues his mission to write/record and play his own brand of Instrumental and Roots Rock.' Someone said it's not about the destination ,but the journey' and quite a little trip he's had so far. Experiences from London and Japan then Borneo have given BAT a unique perspective on a very diverse world which forms a large part of his creative spark. The other side of this wandering Englishman is his love of just plugging in with a band and letting rip,' bloody good fun mate' [if it's done right] The new EP 'Down Under Sky' contains some belting rock tracks 'Palace of Dreams re-mix for example shows BAT's flair for the rock genre where 'Comes Around-The Witch re-mix' is more of a link to his Instrumental albums in feel [also available on CD Baby] . The EP starts off with a stripped down Roots style song called 'Down Under Sky' where for the first time Bat gets the slide guitar thing happening. 'Haven't really got a favourite on this release - I actually do like them all ....I think it's the story behind each one that holds the moment.

Songs from the Dark Wood

BAT

Rock Art where thoughtful lyrics meet a cascade of guitar driven tunes lying on a bed of warm orchestral sounds and carried along with powerful , haunting rhythms.

This is the fourth album from BAT. A natural progression from the atmospheric Rock Art Instrumentals contained in the previous 3 albums. 'I've found my voice again' he was heard to say.

This is the fourth album from BAT. A natural progression from the atmospheric Rock Art Instrumentals contained in the previous 3 albums. 'I've found my voice again' he was heard to say. Most of the tracks on this album have lyrics while a few still hold the original Instrumental Magic. The guitar is still my voice but now that I'm singing aswell you get two of me for the price of one. I really love each track for the emotions that went into it and the music which has resulted from much soul searching and a general love of doing different things with my guitar playing. This still includes letting rip. Each song has a story behind it which will be told in time.

Hello and thanks for coming to the new CD for a bit more info about Bat. This one has taken me about a year to complete and I'm really pleased with the results. As in the first album 'Shades' I have continued the instrumental themes route but there is a hint of things to come when Bat begins the live side and takes his band out on the road. I'm now living in beautiful Tasmania as an Australian Citizen and enjoying the great natural heritage of the place as long as the logging companies and the Government don't destroy the trees and native animals which they seem intent on doing. See Greenpeace and The Wilderness Society web pages for more info. Each of the songs on this new album is a reflection on the place where I live and the first track 'The Place of the Stars' is a literal translation of the Aboriginal name for my village MURDUNNA. The last album sold really well and with your support I will continue to write and make good chill out sounds. See you all soon I hope with my band. BAT...

All This Time and what have we learned from the mistakes of the past...still killing people and the environment , still tribal and selfish...well if you've read this far then you can fill in the rest aswell as connect with the music and find the hope embroidered inside. Finishing off with Dirty Water where the double meanings show themselves I'm hoping to make statements without preaching. I did put a little love song in though, 'The Peace Within'is the classic acoustic mid set number. Please find the right time and space to get into my new album/dvd and TURN IT UP!

This wandering Englishman is now an Australian and living in Tasmania.

He has spent time in darkest Borneo on studio based work for a rich bloke, but was not really allowed to truly express himself, still it was a great experience.

Before that BAT was in Japan with his own band doin' backing work for Japanese artists.

In London he was working with many top artists but never in the foreground so after a number of years he decided to begin travelling to get a perspective.

All I want to do is to give people some music which can lighten their moods with sounds that provide a welcome distraction to the everyday drag/ pressure stuff. MUSIC FOR YOUR IMAGINATION. So kick back,do your own thing and listen. This collection of music is 46 mins. long and I would just like to thank Cam for a great job on the drums. Malc Battersby. PS. LOOK OUT FOR 'Deeper Shades' AT THE END OF FEBRUARY
